The death toll in the Marawi conflict rose to 429 as of June 29, according to the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP)
The militants side suffered 303 deaths while 82 soldiers and 44 civilians were killed since the Islamic State affiliate Maute group seized the city on May 23, AFP spokesman Brig. Gen. Restituto Padilla said on Friday.
Padilla said the remaining Maute fighters are holed up in four barangays and putting up resistance as troops engage them while rescuing trapped residents and hostages and retrieving bodies.
The Marawi fighting erupted when government troops tried to capture Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Hapilon in the area and the Maute fighters defended him.
