Pinay confined in Jeddah hospital seeks help

An Filipino worker who suffered a stroke late last year and has been confined in a hospital in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia is in need of help.

Romeo Mendoza was rushed to a private hospital in January by his employer after he suffered a stroke. Mendoza’s Filipina nurse, said his employer has stopped coordinating with the hospital’s administration in April allegedly after his hospital bills exceeded his insurance coverage. He has been confined in the hospital for six months now.

“Tina-try po na tawagan ang numero na binigay nang kasama niya, ang problema po ay hindi sila sumasagot,” the nurse, who refused to be identified, told GMA News. “Naaawa na po kami kay kuya. Kung puwede po sana matulungan siyang makauwi ng Pilipinas para makasama niya aang kanyang pamilya doon,” she added.

In order to be able to go back home to the Philippines, Mendoza needs an exit visa. Atoy Esguerra, coordinator of pro-OFW group Kaagapay ng Bawat OFW, which is helping Mendoza, said that only Mendoza’s employer could provide the exit visa since he is a legitimate OFW.

Esguerra is appealing to the Philippine Consulate to bring the issue to the Governor’s Office in Jeddah since Mendoza’s employer has stopped coordinating with them.

Welfare officer Rosemarie Cleofe, meanwhile, said they are exerting all efforts to contact Mendoza’s employer, according to GMA News.
