SHARJAH: Motorists between the ages of 18 and 30 had been responsible for more than 44 percent of accidents in Sharjah in the first five months of the year, according to a local media report.
That age group was responsible for 434 accidents, Alittihad quoted Sharjah Police as saying.
Motorists younger than 18, who did not have driving licences, caused 116 accidents, the report said.
A total of 310 accidents were caused by 31 to 45-year-olds, 88 by 46 to 60-year-olds, and 22 by those 61 or older. The accidents in total caused 159 deaths, 86 severe injuries, 351 moderate injuries and 375 mild injuries.
During the same period, 8,251 serious violations were registered, 6,824 of which were for traffic light violations, 1,081 for speeding, 152 for reckless driving, 144 for endangering others and 50 for drag racing, said the news portal.
