Philippine officials represented the country at the 5th Future Minerals Forum in Riyadh, joining global leaders to discuss challenges and opportunities in the transition to secure and responsible critical-minerals supply chains.

Ambassador Raymond R. Balatbat and Department of Environment and Natural Resources Assistant Secretary Michael V. Cabalda took part in the Jan. 13 Ministerial Roundtable, while a separate delegation led by Environment Secretary Raphael P.M. Lotilla, with BARMM Minister Akmad A. Brahim, participated in discussions on the second day focusing on critical-minerals policy, responsible mining, and downstream integration.

Philippine officials emphasized the country’s potential to contribute not just as a supplier of raw materials such as nickel, copper, and gold, but also through higher-value processing and sustainable supply-chain participation.

The forum, organized by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, runs from Jan. 13 to 15 under the theme “Dawn of a Global Cause.”

It brings together governments, industry leaders, and international organizations to shape policies on responsible mineral development.
