Emiratis have started engaging in the candidacy process for the Federal National Council (FNC) elections scheduled for October, as nominations are being accepted at nine registration centers until Friday.
On the initial day, 162 applications were submitted to the FNC, with distribution as follows: 58 in Abu Dhabi, 23 in Dubai, 29 in Sharjah, 12 in Ajman, 12 in Umm Al Quwain, 19 in Ras Al Khaimah, and nine in Fujairah.
The FNC, the UAE’s consultative parliament, focuses on oversight of decision-making, ministerial accountability, and public representation.
Meanwhile, applicants for council positions must meet specific criteria. They must be Emirati, permanent residents of their chosen emirate, and at least 25 years old at nomination closing. Candidates should also possess an untarnished reputation and no criminal convictions, except for those whose records have been legally cleared.
Nomination requests can be submitted through the committee’s website or the uaenec app on Apple Store and Google Play. The process began on Monday and will end on Friday, with a registration fee of AED3,000.
Further, the preliminary list of candidates will be unveiled on August 25, followed by the final list on September 2.
