WATCH: Man arrested within two hours for driving in opposite direction in UAE

Authorities in the UAE detained a 26-year-old man for speeding in the opposite direction of a main roadway and performing stunts on another internal route.

Officers from the Ajman Police Traffic and Patrols Department saw the footage via CCTV cameras placed on busy highways which recorded the Gulf national’s reckless driving and arrested him within two hours.

According to Lt Colonel Saif Abdullah Al Falasi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Department of Ajman Police, the control systems in the operations center saw and followed the reckless motorist.

The motorist drove against traffic to a residential neighborhood, where he did drifting stunts on an interior road. This was also captured on another surveillance camera.

On their official Twitter page, authorities released footage of a driver driving against traffic on Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Road. The video also shows how the police followed him around, finally resulting in his arrest and the seizure of his vehicle.

The traffic patrol squad initiated a search for him, and he was apprehended less than two hours later while driving his Lexus in the Al-Tallah region.

According to Lt. Colonel Saif Al Falasi, the car was confiscated, the driver was detained, and the driver’s license was revoked for six months owing to many significant traffic infractions.

He was fined AED2000 for operating a car in a reckless way that endangers his life and the lives or safety of others. He was also fined AED600 for driving in the opposite direction of traffic, as well as AED500 for failing to obey traffic signs and regulations.

Following his detention, it was discovered that the motorist had committed multiple more traffic offences, totaling AED17,650 in penalties. His license has been suspended for six months by the police. He has 46 black points on his record, and his car will be confiscated for 127 days.
