Over 9 out of 10 Filipinos favor full face-to-face classes – survey

A recent Pulse Asia survey showed an overwhelming preference for children’s participation in face-to-face classes in the coming school year with around 94 per cent of adult Filipinos agreeing that children must be allowed to attend face-to-face classes.

The survey commissioned by Senator Sherwin Gatchalian showed that 94 per cent of adult respondents agree that children should be allowed to attend face-to-face classes and four per cent cannot say if they agree or may disagree and only two per cent say they disagree.

Around 67 percent strongly agree that children should be allowed to attend school physically or have face-to-face classes in the coming school year while 27 percent somewhat agree with the idea.

There were 1,200 respondents surveyed across the Philippines and 86 percent from the National Capital Region, 94 percent from Luzon, 97 percent from Visayas, and 97 percent from Mindanao said they wanted face to face classes to resume.

While 85 percent from Classes ABC were are in favor of the idea, 96 percent from Class D, and 92 percent from Class E in the survey which was conducted from June 24 to 27 through interview and has a margin of error of ± 2.8.

In a statement, Gatchalian, said this sends signal to the government that the resumption of face-to-face classes should no longer be delayed.

“Kung pakikinggan natin ang ating mga kababayan, makikita nating napakalakas ng panawagan para sa pagbabalik ng face-to-face classes. Hindi na natin maaari pang ipagpaliban ang pagbabalik ng ating mga kabataan sa paaralan at hindi na natin dapat hayaang mahuli ang sektor ng edukasyon mula sa pagbangon natin sa pandemya,” said Gatchalian.
