Worshippers attended Eid Al Fitr prayers and exchanged greetings on Monday morning amid the COVID-19 prevention measures.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic this year’s Eid is the closest after mosques returned to almost full capacity in February.
Hundreds of people prayed at the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi and Sheikh Khalifa Grand Mosque in Al Ain, at 7 am.
However, certain restrictions remained to protect the public during prayers, including the requirement of an active green pass on Al Hosn app to attend.
The duration of the prayers, including the Khutba (sermon) was limited to 20 minutes while the entry and exit of worshippers at mosques was supervised by police, volunteers and imams to prevent overcrowding and maintain order.
People were required to wear face masks at all times and maintain a distance of 1 metre while the authorities had urged the public to give Eid presents through electronic means and limit celebrations to immediate family members and relatives.
Physical distancing stickers were also set up in outdoor spaces surrounding mosques.
