Dubai Police reminds public to be cautious about online beggars

The Dubai Police on Sunday asked people to remain cautious about online beggars.

The police said that the beggars also use emails, WhatsApp or other social media platforms and send pictures of people in poor conditions.

It added that false stories are being conveyed about seeking money to support orphans or for treatment.

Butti Ahmad bin Darwish Al Falasi, director of security awareness at Dubai Police, said that the Federal Law No.5 of 2012 on Cybercrime bars people from running an electronic site to raise donations without a license.

The Dubai Police urged the public to report beggars to the toll-free number 901 or through the Police Eye service on Dubai Police App as well as to inform about online beggars and suspicious cyber activities on www.ecrime.ae.

The Dubai Police has sent 76,060 emails to raise awareness against begging.
