Duterte supports return of face shield policy

President Rodrigo Duterte is supportive of the possible return of the face shield policy amid the threat of the Omicron COVID-19 variant.

Duterte however clarified that the Inter-Agency Task Force will decide on the matter.

“I would suggest to the task force to make a statement whether or not really ‘pag dumating itong Omicron na ito, since we have a dearth of data, in the meantime would just dictate maybe we could be strict again,” Duterte said.

Health Secretary Francisco Duque said that the entry of the Omicron variant is only a matter of when.

“I think now, with the threat of this Omicron variant, it will be an added layer of protection that will be good for the public,” Duque said.

DILG Secretary Eduardo Año said that the government will impose the dreaded plastic barriers once the alert level increases due to the Omicron variant.

“‘Pag pumasok po ‘yung Omicron at tumaas ‘yung Alert Level, i-impose ulit natin,” Año said. (TDT)
