The resilience of a Filipino woman has helped her survive breast cancer in the UAE.
Filipina expat and a teacher, Patricia, based in Al Ain serves as an inspiration for all as the 48-year-old made a recovery from breast cancer.
Her battle against the disease began in late 2019 as she complained of pain in her left breast and was found with an abnormal lump.

A mammogram confirmed that she was suffering from breast cancer and needed to undergo immediate treatment.
She was referred to Tawam Hospital, part of Abu Dhabi Health Services Company’s (Seha) and got admitted to the hospital’s Breast Care Centre (BCC) where a multidisciplinary team designed her treatment plan.
“I started my treatment, chemotherapy and surgery, all in the midst of the pandemic,” she said.

Patricia continued to live a normal life and teach students remotely. She said that she was lucky for the “great support” from her school colleagues, family and caregivers at Tawam Breast Cancer Centre.
She said that early detection saved her life and urged the others to also undergo timely screening.
Consultant and medical oncologist, Tawam Breast Cancer Centre, Dr Aydah Saleh Alawadhi, said that Patricia’s treatment was successful due to early diagnosis. (AW)
