The Dubai Criminal Court has sentenced a Moroccan man who raped a female tourist to 15 years in prison.
The man met the woman at a hotel restaurant in Jumeirah Lakes Towers in December 2020 and introduced himself as a stylist.
The man then invited her to his apartment after claiming that he would sell hair treatment products at a discounted rate.
At his apartment, he pushed the woman to the bed and locked the door.
According to the victim, the man threatened to kill her if she would not stay quiet.
She was able to escape the apartment and immediately called the police, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
The man initially admitted to committing rape, but later said that the encounter was consensual.
The court found the man guilty and was sentenced to imprisonment to be followed by deportation.
