An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in Kabul, Afghanistan did not hesitate to fetch his fellow Filipinos before leaving the crisis-hit country.
OFW Elmer Presa posted on Facebook a photo of him and some gun-wielding men, apparently Taliban fighters for allowing them to enter Kabul’s airport.
“Thank you all for the permissions to get inside the HKIA (Hamid Karzai International Airport), Kabul Afghanistan,” he wrote.
Presa, who has been working in a private security firm for at least 10 years, was told early this week that they need to evacuate from Kabul and they have to do it fast.
The initial plan was to go to a more secure spot and head to the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul and board the first flight out.
But Presa was aware that there are still stranded Filipinos in several parts of Kabul. Some of them were still stranded at the Swedish and US Embassies in Kabul were no local drivers dared to go after the hardline Islamist group seized Kabul, reported PNA.
He then told his bosses that he will take control and be in charge in fetching the Filipinos.
“Wala na po tayong driver na naglakas loob na kunin sila at ako po ay nakiusap sabi ko sa aking boss, I will take this to get my guys. So binigyan po ako ng pahintulot,” he shared in a radio interview.
Presa was able to pick up two other Filipinos on that same day before they boarded a United States Air Force plane.
He also shared images of him inside the US military plane with thousands of Afghan on board.
The OFW is now in Doha, Qatar and waiting for their flight to the Philippines.
