A private hospital has been ordered by a local court in Abu Dhabi to pay AED500,000 in compensation as damages to a woman for falsely diagnosing her with malignant cancer.
The hospital had operated on the young woman patient to remove ‘malignant’ cancer. According to the complaint against the hospital, the medical facility had taken advantage of her health insurance to make quick bucks and lie to her that she was suffering from cancer.
A lawsuit by her in the Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance against the medical facility authorities and sought AED 500,000 in compensation for her physical, moral and material damages.
She was suffering from indigestion and the medical facility authorities initially conducted a test and later a doctor recommended that she should be shifted to the Department of Internal Medicine for further tests.
Another doctor told her she was suffering from cancer and she was asked to undergo a surgical procedure to remove the ‘malignant’ tumor.
The woman experienced severe complications after the surgical procedure and had to visit another hospital for a second surgery.
A committee appointed by the court to investigate the matter corroborated the findings of medical reports and the faulty surgical procedure also led to complications and damages to the complainant’s abdominal wall.
The court ordered the medical facility authorities to pay AED 500,000 as compensation for the damages suffered by her.
