Over 90 OFWs plead PH gov’t: Get us out of Afghanistan while we’re still alive

Some 98 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Afghanistan called on the government to mount more repatriation flights for them after the Taliban group took over the country, reported GMA News.

Among them is Ricardo Tacbad, an OFW still awaiting to be repatriated from there.

“Hindi kami sure kung ano mangyari sa amin bukas. Habang, we are still alive and kicking, kumilos na po kayo. Kumilos na po kayo please,” the OFW said.

Another OFW quoted by the report said he was worried as there are “videos circulating online of several residents wanting to flee the country.”

The Philippine government declared Alert Level 4 which orders mandatory evacuation after the Islamist militants entered the capital.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said there were 130 Filipinos in Afghanistan.

On Sunday, at least 32 of them have been repatriated and were brought to Doha, Qatar where they awaited their flight to the Philippines.

As the Taliban ordered fighters in Kabul, thousands of Afghans crowded the airport’s tarmac trying to get onto planes flying out of the country and at least five people have been reported killed amid the chaos.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has left the country.
