COVID-19 patient escapes Metro Manila quarantine to attend wake

A COVID-19 patient has escaped a quarantine facility in Metro Manila to attend a wake in her province.

In a Manila Bulletin report, the patient managed to board a flight bound for Koronadal City.

Dr. Edito Vego, acting head of the City Health Office (CHO) in Koronadal City, said. that the patient traveled initially from Quezon City to Bulacan and then boarded a flight to her home province earlier this week.

“The patient previously tested positive for COVID-19 but escaped from isolation and returned home to attend the wake of a deceased family member,” Vego told Bombo Radyo.

Upon investigation, the patient was in a Manila-General Santos flight manifesto, they were able to identify the patient who hails from Barangay Sta. Cruz.

The infected patient traveled from the airport to the city through a private van and later attended the wake at their home.

They have alerted authorities on the case of the patient. She is also now back in isolation.

Health authorities are now tracing her reported companion from Manila, the other co-passengers in the van, and possible contacts among family members and attendees of the “contaminated wake.” (TDT)
