A target to construct 25 percent of buildings using 3D printing technology will be executed by the Dubai Municipality by 2030, authorities said.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and ruler of Dubai, has issued decree No. (24) of 2021 empowering Dubai Municipality to oversee the 25 percent target by 2030.
The Dubai Media Office said that the authorities are aiming to promote Dubai as a regional and global hub for the use of 3D printing technologies to enhance efficiencies in construction projects, local industry’s competitiveness, reduce waste and attract leading companies in the sector to Dubai.

The global 3D printing market size is nearly $16.54 billion in 2021 and is projected to hit $34.8 billion by 2026 at a compound annual growth rate of 22.5 percent.
3D printing process offers advantages in design, time, and cost, and the technology also known as additive manufacturing is increasingly becoming popular with manufacturers.
The new regulation specifies that any entity seeking to conduct 3D printing activity in the sector must first register with Dubai Municipality and obtain a license.

The real estate developers have also to ensure that 3D printing related projects are executed only by contractors licensed for the activity by Dubai Municipality.
Dubai Municipality will promote the use of 3D printing with government and non-government entities and also create a consolidated list of incentives in the sector. Through the decree, the director-general of Dubai Municipality has been authorized to issue decisions for the purpose. (AW)
