The 33rd International Olympiad for Informatics (IOI) in Singapore, which was held online, witnessed three Filipino high school students from the Department of Science and Technology’s Science Education Institute winning 3 bronze medals.
The winners included Vincent Dela Cruz, Raphael Dylan Dalida, and Frederick Ivan Tan, who won the honors despite the pandemic difficulties, according to team leader Vernon Gutierrez.

While 12th grader Dela Cruz was placed 92nd in the 351 competitors, Dalida and Tan were ranked 119th and 136th respectively.
The IOI is one of several international science Olympiads held annually globally and in which high school students compete in algorithmic tests to sharpen their informatics skills including problem analysis, design of algorithms and data structures, programming, and testing.

Marte Solita, president of the National Olympiad in Informatics-Philippines, described the IOI as a proving ground for bright upcoming minds capable of solving the world’s problems. (AW)
