Dubai revises travel protocol for flights from India, South Africa, and Nigeria from June 23

The Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster has revised its travel protocols for inbound passengers from South Africa, Nigeria, and India.

According to Dubai Media Office, the new protocols will be effective beginning Wednesday, June 23, 2021.

“The updated travel protocols are part of a regular process of revising and optimizing precautionary measures based on the latest local, regional and international developments,” the statement read.

The new protocols are aimed at enabling the emirate to continue serving as a global commercial hub and a bridge for travel and trade between the east and west.

Travel from India:

Only passengers with a valid residence visa who are fully vaccinated of a vaccine approved by the UAE health regulators, are allowed to travel to Dubai.

Travelers should also present a negative PCR test result taken 48 hours prior to departure; UAE nationals are exempted from this requirement.

Only QR-coded test certificates are accepted.

Inbound passengers are also required to undergo a rapid PCR test four hours prior to departure to Dubai as well as another PCR test on arrival at Dubai Airport.

All travellers arriving from India will undergo mandatory quarantine until they receive their PCR test result. UAE citizens and diplomats are exempted from mandatory quarantine.

Travel from South Africa:

Under the new protocols, travellers from South Africa, who have received two doses of a UAE-approved vaccine, will be allowed to enter Dubai.

Passengers are also required to present a negative PCR test result taken within 48 hours before departure to Dubai.

Dubai Media Office noted UAE citizens are exempted from this PCR test requirement.

All passengers will undergo a PCR test upon arrival at Dubai Airport, while transit passengers should comply with entry protocols of final destinations.

Travel from Nigeria:

All passengers coming Nigeria must present a negative result of a PCR test taken 48 hours before their scheduled departure.

UAE nationals are exempted from this requirement.

The negative test certificate should carry a QR Code from testing centres approved by the Nigerian Government.

All travelers must also undergo a PCR test on arrival at Dubai Airport, while transit passengers should adhere with travel protocols of their final destinations.

Meanwhile, flag carrier Emirates said it will resume carrying passengers from South Africa, Nigeria and India in accordance with these protocols on June 23.

“We thank the Supreme Committee for their continuous efforts in monitoring the development of the situation and announcing the appropriate guidelines and protocols to protect the community and safeguard travel sector,” the airline said. (RA)
