President Rodrigo Duterte has addressed calls for him to run as vice president in the 2022 national elections.
The President said that he will honor his agreemnet with Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez to support him should he run for the vice presidency.
Duterte recalled the deal when there was a tussle on the house speakership. It was then former speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco and Majority Floor Leader Martin Romualdez who vied for the post.

Duterte brokered the agreement saying Cayetano and Velasco will do a term-sharing deal.
This is the first time the president revealed that part of the deal was Romualdez’s possible vice presidential bid.
“Kaya ang deal ko sa kanya ganito— wag ka nalang maghabol diyan, and next election, which is just around the corner, if you run for Vice President, I will support you. And I will hold on that commitment,”
Duterte said.

During his speech in Malacañang, Duterte entertains the idea of a VP post.
“Marami pang iba na hindi ko nagawa. On corruption, I’m doing it, I’m firing people left and right sa gobyerno. Criminality, I think medyo bumaba na ang crimes against the people. Ang isa pa, ‘yung droga, infrastructure project,” he said. (TDT)
