Kuwaiti citizens seeking Filipino household service workers (HSWs) should be earning a minimum salary of KWD1,000 (around Php159,000), while families with 3 to 5 members need to have salary certificates of KWD1,500, according to the new conditions set by the Philippine Embassy in Kuwait.
Families with more than 5 members, meanwhile, should have a minimum income of KWD2,000, local media reports quoted the embassy as saying.
The Philippine Embassy in Kuwait, according to Arabic daily Al Jarida, stated these new conditions for hiring Filipino HSWs were issued to ensure the the households could afford to pay the workers according to the contract.

Recruitment of Filipino HSWs had been suspended for over a year following complaints of mistreatment, non-payment, or delay in salary. The embassy officials further said that only Kuwaiti families with the required salary amounts could afford to hire these workers.
The new conditions would positively highlight Kuwait’s image in the international community as well as reduce disputes between employers and employees, Gulf News quoted Bassam Al Shammari, Head of the Voluntary Committee to Follow Upon the Status of Domestic Workers, as saying.
He reportedly said Kuwaiti recruitment offices did not receive job requests from the Philippines as female workers did not want to come here, but preferred to go to other countries for several reasons. (AW)
