Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) have now been made eligible to apply for the National Housing Authority’s (NHA) low-cost housing program, as part of the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) initiative.
The NHA, DOLE, and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) – on June 7 (World Migrants Day) – had signed an MOU to include OFWs in the government’s housing program.
NHA General Manager Marcelino Escalada Jr. said on June 7 that many ineligible OFWs had been rejected despite seeking inclusion in the housing program, which were initially offered to government employees, displaced families, low-income families, informal settlers, and indigenous people.
“Now, they can apply anytime at the regional level and it is affordable for everyone,” Escalada added.
