A salesman in Dubai was convicted for deliberately setting a store on fire.
The man confessed to authorities that he broke into the textile shop using an iron rod and searched for money afterwards.
He admitted that to the crime, saying that his employer had not paid his salary for 12 months.
The incident happened back in December 2020, when the shop owner filed a report that a fire broke out in his store.
The owner said the man absconded and that his residence visa has expired.
He added that the surveillance cameras in a nearby store revealed that it was his former employee who broke into the store and set it on fire.
The Judicial Authority of the Criminal Court in Dubai sentenced the man to two years imprisonment with a fine of AED980,000 followed by deportation after serving his sentence.
