A fire on a boat – that threatened to turn into a blaze – was put out in time by maritime rescue teams of the port’s police with the help of Dubai Civil Defence in Dubai’s Umm Suqeim Marina on May 29.

Rescue teams rushed to the site immediately and moved the boat to a secure location away from other vessels to prevent the fire from spreading, according to Lieutenant Colonel Ali Al Naqbi, head of the Maritime Rescue Department at Dubai Police.

The speedy response on the ground had ensured that nobody was injured in the incident, he said while urging owners of private boats to ensure providing and non-expiry of safety equipment onboard the boat in the present rising summer temperatures.

The latest boat fire incident occurred two weeks after a yacht caught fire in Abu Dhabi’s Mina Zayed area — and six months after two people were injured in a boat fire off the coast of Ras Al Khaimah. (AW)
