UAE’s Tadbeers are efficient partners to PH resumption of deployment for HSWs – Quintana

The Philippine Embassy in the UAE states that the UAE government-sanctioned recruitment agencies called ‘Tadbeers’ will be key to a more efficient and dependable partnership for the resumption of the deployment of household service workers (HSW) in the country.

Philippine Ambassador to the UAE, H.E. Amb. Hjayceelyn Quintana visited one of the Tadbeers as part of the embassy’s commemoration of the International Labor Day and stated that the landmark decision that took place between Philippines and the UAE last March 2, 2021 was something that the embassy has been pushing for since the 2014 deployment suspension.

“After seven years, we have successfully resumed the regular and legal deployment of Filipino domestic workers to the UAE. Having been part of the negotiations, I have seen how hard we all worked for this, therefore I am sure that both countries will remain vigilant in ensuring the protection of Filipino workers and their Emirati employers against unscrupulous people intent on violating the rules and trampling on the worker’s rights for profit,” said Quintana, who since assuming office in 2018 here in the UAE had been actively engaging with local government officials for a streamlined pathway for Filipinos who wish to work in the country.

The Tadbeer Centers will be the only legal channel for employers who wish to hire Filipino HSWs across 19 categories including nannies and drivers, with strict adherance to the rules and regulations laid out by the UAE’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE).

Mostafa Bahkit, Customer Service Manager of the Tadbeer Center at the World Trade Center Mall in Abu Dhabi assured that all workers who will pass through Tadbeers will be given proper orientation of their jobs and will have proper living quarters and training before they are deployed to their respective households. He also assured that all HSWs are regularly checked on especially for concerns and grievances.

“My visit to this Tadbeer Center aims to demonstrate that both the Philippines and the UAE are working hand in hand to protect domestic workers’ rights and to guarantee dignity of labor,” added Amb. Quintana who is optimistic that the Tadbeer Centers will be the Embassy’s close partners in caring for each and every Filipino HSW who dream to work here in the UAE.

She added that while procedures and timelines for deployment will necessarily be affected by COVID-19 restrictions in both the Philippines and the UAE, the two sides are keen to see this deployment succeed.

Accompanying the Ambassador during the visit were Labor Attache Manuel Dimaano, Consul General Marford Angeles, and Consul Cynthia Pelayo.
