The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or Phivolcs issued another alert saying that the volcano has an elevated increase in seismic activity. This means that an eruption is likely to happen.
Phivolcs said a total of 2,015 volcanic tremors and 734 low-frequency volcanic earthquakes have been recorded in Taal since February 13. It also registered 18 hybrid earthquake events since then.
“Overall seismic energy release has markedly increased since yesterday afternoon compared to previous seismic swarms,” the agency said in an advisory.

Phivolcs added that sulfur dioxide gas emission in the previous week, meanwhile, has been generally high.
“The above parameters indicate that magma has been migrating across shallow depths beneath TVI, increasing the possibilities of magmatic eruption,” the agency said.

Taal Volcano is still on Alert Level 2, which means it is at increased unrest. Steam-driven or phreatic eruptions may occur suddenly, as well as volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas which could be lethal.
The public is reminded that the Taal Volcano Island is off-limits.
PHIVOLCS advised pilots not to fly close to the volcano as ash and ballistic fragments from sudden explosions may be hazardous to aircrafts. (TDT)
