The Dubai Police have urged motorists to give way to emergency and overtaking vehicles in the fast lane.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Media Incorporated launched a two-month awareness campaign to remind the drivers the use of the extreme far left lane or fast lane and limits its use for emergency and overtaking vehicles.
Police officers can issue a Dh400 penalty and 4 black points against drivers who will fail to give way to overtaking and emergency vehicles under the Ministerial Resolution No. (179) of 2017 on the Rules and Procedures for Traffic Control issued in 2017.
The campaign also involved informing the public to use indicators when changing lanes and keep a safe distance between vehicles.
“The campaign aims at enhancing road safety and security, reducing accidents and preventing aggressive driving behaviour.”
Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, said.
Authorities urged motorists to give way to overtaking vehicles and those who are using the fast lane for emergency purposes so that they could respond to these situations.
“The campaign is one of the many joint initiatives by RTA and Dubai Police to maintain traffic safety across Dubai by implementing procedures and launching campaigns to inform road users,” Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said in a report on the Khaleej Times.
