A Kuwaiti Court handed down a guilty verdict and death sentence to the female employer of Filipina domestic worker Jeanelyn Villavende.
The Filipina OFW was tortured to death due to jealousy, court records showed.
Philippine embassy lead counsel, Atty. Sheikha Fawzia Al-Sabah, said that the court’s ruling today was fair and in compliance with the law and Sharia.

“Thank you Kuwait. The Criminal Court sentenced a Kuwaiti citizen to death for the murder of her Filipino household worker, Jeannelyn Villavende,” Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddyboy Locsin Jr said in a tweet.
“The PE lawyer Fawziya Al Sabah (thank you for your service, sir) said the Court’s decision was fair and in accordance with law and Sharia as the accused assaulted her Filipino employee for days and imprisoned her in a room until her death,” Locsin added.
Locsin also expressed his gratitude to the Philippine Ambassador to Kuwait for ensuring justice for Villavende.
“To my brother, the Kuwait Ambassador to the PH, I owe you a debt of blood gratitude. My thanks and that of my nation and people is eternal,” he said.

Villavende’s death prompted a deployment ban for household workers to Kuwait early this year.
Local autopsy showed that Villavende suffered at least five months of abuse until her death on December 28, 2019. There were clear indications of sexual abuse, said Ricardo Rodaje, chief medico legal of the National Bureau of Investigation. (TDT)
