Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga is currently under fire for allegedly going on parties and gatherings as the country records rising number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases, Reuters reported.
The Prime Minister has implored in the past about the dangers of going to gatherings. However, reports said he went ahead with various get-togethers recently—including a year-end party as well as dinners at steak restaurants in Tokyo.
The government’s spokesman, Katsunobu Kato, stressed, however, that Suga was careful enough during those events.
“It is important to make individual decisions, based on balancing between purposes of group meals and infection control measures,” Kato said in a press conference.
