OFW faces fines of Php 168,000 for stepping out of quarantine for eight seconds

An overseas Filipino worker was fined $3,500 (Php 168,000+) for stepping out of his room for eight seconds during his quarantine period at a hotel.

Kaohsiung City Department of Health Senior Specialist Pan Chao-ying (潘炤穎) stated that that the fine is as stipulated by the law from the Ministry of Health and Welfare in the Communicable Disease Control Act, as per reports from Taiwan News.

Pan states that the law applies to both Taiwanese nationals and foreigners and that everyone is treated the same. He furthered that this should be a reminder that those under quarantine should always follow the law.

Kaohsiung City has over 56 quarantine hotels with a total of 3,000 rooms as per Taiwan’s official Central News Agency (CNA).

As of posting time, Taiwan only has 716 COVID-19 cases with seven deaths.
