A man set himself ablaze in the middle of Shibuya Crossing in Tokyo, Japan, on the evening of August 24, South China Morning Post reported.
In several videos circulating on social media recently, the unidentified man was shown crossing the city’s busiest intersection carrying a backpack. He then stopped, put his backpack down and set it on fire, and laid his body down atop the small blaze.
Police officers and firefighters then arrived to rescue the man, who bystanders claimed in local reports appeared to be disoriented.
Authorities said the man sustained minor burns and is now undergoing treatment. They are now investigating if the man was trying to kill himself.
