Plan to stop sale of energy drinks to kids in Bahrain rejected

Bahrain’s Parliament has rejected the plan to restrict sale of energy drinks to those under 18 years old, noting that regulations about these drinks are already in place, The Daily Tribune News of Bahrain reported.
The proposal was supposed to impose a fine as high as Bh 2,000 on shops that sell energy drinks to kids. It was submitted with the aim to improve the health of children in the Kingdom.
The decision to submit the proposal was made after studies showed that consumption of energy drinks can lead to health problems like insomnia, gastronomical upset, headaches, diabetes, and heart disease.
The Parliamentary Services Committee, however, said there is no need for such law as regulations are already in place regarding these drinks.
