Advocating health awareness
What sets 2018 TFT Awards Healthcare Professional of the Year Dr. Aileen Villanueva apart from her day job as the head of NMC Mabuhay Clinic, one of the most popular and established Filipino clinics in Abu Dhabi, is her drive to continue to push the narrative of awareness when it comes to ailments that can be prevented ahead of time.
“I am and will continue to be an active advocate of a “healthy Filipino community” here in Abu Dhabi, as we conduct continuous awareness and educational campaigns regarding cancer and medical missions,” said Dr. Villanueva.
As a professional, she knows by heart that prevention is better than cure – something that she achieves through the help of Filipino organizations: “We provide support and other forms of medical assistance together with the League of Filipino Healthcare Professionals and Shades of Pink Society.”
Understanding the real value of integrity
For Dr. Villanueva, winning the TFT Awards is a reminder of her purpose in life which is to be of service to Filipinos who need it most. “I aspire to be a good role model of integrity, passion and commitment to the community as a doctor and as a voice to many underprivileged Filipinos,” said Villanueva.
She furthers that she hopes that future winners that the award-giving body would recognize would never compromise their integrity as they push their advocacies for the betterment of the public: “Know your purpose in life, love your work to excel with the right attitude, be innovative, inspire others. Never compromise your integrity because we only have one name to carry and only one lifetime to live.”
