Good Friday commemorates the Crucifixion of Christ and is a day of penance and fasting for Catholics. Black Saturday follows as the day when Jesus Christ laid in the tomb after his death. Easter Sunday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
In a message on Twitter, Pope Francis – who visited the UAE earlier this year, said that fasting frees the soul from worldly attachments, and teaches the heart how to love.
