How to start your own water refilling station business in PH

With thousands of possible business venture ideas out there, it’s hard to find the right business apt for you and your goals. Sometimes, we tend to overthink in generating possible business ideas that we forget to see the basics.

Water is one basic commodity and there is an endless demand for clean and potable water. In a recent article by The Filipino Times, we talked about the steps on how to put up a laundromat. A good business to pair it with is a water refilling station—as the excess water from the water refilling station could then be used for the laundromat.

If you want to start a water refilling station in the Philippines, here’s how:

1. Find the right location
Just as any other business, finding the right location for your business venture is key to success. For this type of business, make sure you situate it in a busy neighborhood or somewhere with good foot traffic so as to attract many customers. Ideal locations are places near markets, hospitals, offices, and residential areas.

2. Determine your type of business
Water is not simply water. There actually exists different types of water, ranging from mineral water, purified water, alkaline water, sparkling water, and so on. Identify which type of water you want to sell, as different water types will require different equipment or apparatus.

3. Look for a supplier
Find a reliable supplier of water refilling equipment systems for the type of water business you want to pursue. Local suppliers like Hydrocare and Wilcare Water System offer different packages of water equipment that range from P210,000 to P300,000.

4. Secure permits
Register your business with the Department of Trade and Industry and your local government unit before starting your business. Secure all the necessary permits and certificates, especially mandated for businesses of this type.

5. Know the law
Familiarize yourself and comply with the Sanitation Code of the Philippines, which states rules and regulations for water refilling stations. You will also be required to attend Department of Health (DOH)-mandated seminars about operating such business. Water refilling stations are subject to regular monitoring by local health offices as mandated by this code.

6. Set competitive prices
Do a market research around the neighborhood and identify the prices offered by other water refilling stations to give you an idea of how your products should cost. A 5-gallon water usually costs about P30 to P35 each. If you sell about 10 to 15 containers of water a day, that should give you at least P13,500 to P15,750 a month.
