The Pag-IBIG Fund has announced a one-month payment moratorium for housing loan borrowers and is reminding members of their insurance coverage as part of its assistance measures for areas affected by the magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Mindanao.
Officials said the initiative is intended to help affected members recover from the impact of the disaster and ease their financial burden as government recovery operations continue.
Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development Secretary and Pag-IBIG Fund Board Chairman Jose Ramon Aliling said the measures underscore the agency’s commitment to deliver timely assistance to Filipino workers affected by calamities, in line with government recovery efforts under the administration of Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.
“Pag-IBIG Fund is offering a one-month payment moratorium to ease the financial burden of housing loan borrowers affected by the Mindanao earthquake. Borrowers whose homes were damaged may also file insurance claims under their housing loan coverage to help fund repairs,” said Aliling.
Pag-IBIG Fund Chief Executive Officer Marilene C. Acosta said the moratorium is designed to give families breathing space as they prioritize safety, shelter, and recovery.
“This moratorium gives affected borrowers temporary relief, with no penalties or additional interest during the approved period. Their payment terms will simply be extended,” she added.
She said that the relief may be availed through Pag-IBIG branches or via Virtual Pag-IBIG, while insurance claims may be filed through any branch or via [email protected].
The moratorium will cover eligible housing loan borrowers and buyers whose workplaces, mortgaged properties, or properties under installment sale are located in areas declared under a state of calamity due to the earthquake.
In addition to the moratorium and insurance coverage, Pag-IBIG Fund is also offering its Calamity Loan and Home Improvement Loan programs to assist members in affected areas.
Under the Calamity Loan, qualified members may borrow up to 90 percent of their total Pag-IBIG Regular Savings at an interest rate of 5.95 percent per annum, payable within three years with a three-month grace period. Meanwhile, the Home Improvement Loan allows members to borrow up to ₱300,000 for repairs or renovations, payable in up to five years, with a promotional rate of 3 percent per annum for the first 10,000 borrowers.
The DHSUD said Pag-IBIG services remain accessible through online platforms, operating branches, and Lingkod Pag-IBIG on Wheels deployments to reach affected communities.
“We are ensuring that our members have multiple forms of assistance—from payment relief and cash assistance to insurance support and affordable financing—so recovery can be faster and more manageable,” Acosta said.
