A former overseas Filipina worker (OFW) in Dubai is now a millionaire thanks to simple yet irresistible all-time Pinoy favorite dessert, leche flan.
In an article written by Elyssa Christine Lopez published in Entrepreneur Philippines, former OFW Princess San Diego said that she returned to the Philippines and tried her luck in setting up her own business when things did not work for her in Dubai.
She established a barbecue stall, opened a restaurant and even sold gadgets online. San Diego tried jumping from one business to another because most of it did not go smoothly as planned. Her success finally came when she posted a photo online of her made-up dessert. She combined her two favorites – leche flan and matcha.
“I first started posting on my personal Facebook account about it just to brag about what I’ve made. But when I started receiving inquiries about it from my friends, I decided, well, this is going to be a business,” San Diego told the report.

San Diego’s leche flan business called What’s Your Flan? was the brainchild of her first desserts sold during the Christmas season. In the process, she was able to triple her capital which inspired her to continue the business and by the latter months of 2016, she was already earning Php20,000 weekly.
The former OFW began partnering with re-sellers to maximize the reach of her product. This resulted in an income of Php20,000 to Php40,000 per re-seller each month while her product has reached miles—provinces outside Metro Manila, including Davao City.
Along with the financial success of her business is the growth in terms of variety of her product which has now eight flavors.
Last year, San Diego’s earnings have exceeded one million pesos, she revealed in the report. And she’s not resting on her laurels, San Diego wants to open a coffee shop, too.
