LET’s 2015 Top 2 scorer shares an inspiring message on poverty

When Romblon State University graduate Iah Bantang Seraspi placed 2nd during the September 2015 Licensure Exam for Teachers (LET) for the secondary level, she scored 90% in the exam – not far behind the top scorer who had 90.20%.

In a post shared by the Biliran Island Facebook Page, it shows a tarpaulin congratulating Seraspi attached to a small hut. The post also has a snippet of Seraspi’s speech during a testimonial dinner.”

Seraspi’s speech mentions her achievements in school despite her struggles in life: “I came from a poor family. I am not telling you this to humiliate my family nor to get your sympathy. I just want you to realized how blessed you are if you were able to live a life better than mine. Since I started schooling, feeling komayam na kami kapag nakapag-ulam ako ng nopodles sa agahan kasi usually ang ulam ko ay chichiria, kape, asin, asukal o kahit ano basta lang may lasa ang aming kanin. Imagine the nutrition I get from those foods yet I am an achiever in school. Di naman nila makikita ang laman ng tiyan ko but they will definitely see the capacity of my brains.”

Seraspi’s father is a fisherman and her mother is a housewife, according to the full speech Debbie Esquejo Garcia, who financed her college education and review, posted. Seraspi said she had to tutor children for her family’s extra income.
