Actress Carla Abellana poked fun at how her first marriage lasted only seven weeks, joking that she is now close to breaking that record with her marriage to non-showbiz husband Dr. Reginald Santos.
In a “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” interview on Wednesday, Jan. 14, Abellana opened up about her husband, whom she called her first boyfriend and first love. The actress was previously married to actor Tom Rodriguez.
Abellana recalled dating Santos for about two years in high school before they parted ways so he could focus on his studies. She said their breakup had no hard feelings, as she understood his reasons.
The couple did not communicate for years until Santos reached out in 2022 or 2023 with a Christmas greeting. Several months later, they went on a date, reconnecting over shared experiences and life challenges.
“We had a lot in common. Marami kaming pinagdaanan sa buhay na similar kami—in the context of relationship,” she said. “He just got out of a really long-term relationship. They were, at some point, engaged.”
Abellana added, “As what he said, ‘The timing couldn’t have been perfect because iba tayo noon as compared to today. We’re both our best versions of ourselves already.’”
The actress also expressed excitement about married life, saying, “So far, we’ve been married for two weeks. Konti na lang mabi-beat ko na ‘yung record ko dati na seven weeks,” joking about her first marriage. She added she plans to celebrate when they reach the seven-week mark.
Abellana shared that she still dreams of having children and revealed that Santos supported and even participated in her egg freezing journey in 2025.
The couple tied the knot on Dec. 27, 2025, in an intimate ceremony in Alfonso, Cavite.
