Singer Kris Lawrence loses car from scammer

Filipino singer Kris Lawrence is the recent addition to the victims of a car rental scammer.

A police officer is in hot waters after he was caught receiving extortion money from an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) on June 26.

Agents of the Philippine National Police- Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP-IMEG) arrested police Major Raul Salle, deputy chief of the Highway Patrol Group (HPG) Operations Management Division, inside his office in Camp Crame.

According to a report from Inquirer.net, the OFW complainant Ma. April Ochenta said the police officer asked her P140,000 in November 2018 when she sought their help after her Mitsubishi Pajero was stolen.

The amount was to cover for the expenses that Salle’s team would incur in retrieving the complainant’s vehicle.

However, the extortion did not end there with Salle asking for more. This prompted Ochenta to seek the help of PNP-IMEG.

The police officer will face several criminal charges including robbery-extortion, swindling, and grave coercion.

This is aside from the violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act and the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standard for Public Officials and Employees.

PNP-IMEG is also looking for the other cohorts involved in Salle’s transactions.
