A little over two weeks before the grand coronation night of the Miss Universe 2018 beauty pageant, the Philippines’ bet Catriona Gray remains to be one of the top picks to win the crown.
Gray continues to prove that she got what it takes to bring home the title after she got featured in one of United Kingdom’s leading news sites, Daily Mail.
The Filipino-Australian beauty queen was described in a Daily Mail article by Alice Murphy as “the next Jennifer Hawkins”.
Hawkins represented Australia in Miss Universe 2004 and eventually became the second Australian to win the title. Since then, Hawkins has become an influential public figure in her country.
The article also gave some details about Gray’s personal life and her journey since she won the Miss World Philippines crown in 2016.
Murphy also noted the Gray is one of the favored candidates to win the crown, based on Sports Bet Australia. Other favorites include Miss Thailand, Miss Ecuador, and Miss South Africa.
The article also talked about Gray’s advocacies such as education, HIV/AIDS awareness, gender equality, social justice, and human rights.
It also mentioned Gray’s newly released song “We’re In This Together”, which went straight to number one in the iTunes Philippines chart. The accompanying music video, which was released only a few weeks before the pageant, shows “the plight of poverty-stricken children in the slums of Manila.”
Miss Universe 2018 will be happening on December 17 in Bangkok, Thailand wherein South Africa’s Demi Leigh Nel-Peters will crown her successor.
Gray hopes to become the fourth Filipina Miss Universe titleholder after Gloria Diaz, Margie Moran, and Pia Wurtzbach.
