A little over three weeks before the highly anticipated Miss Universe pageant takes place, several candidates of the prestigious beauty pageant have already revealed the national costumes that they will be wearing for the competition.
One of the main events of the Miss Universe pageant is the national costume competition wherein the candidates show off beautiful ensembles that best represent their countries.
For this year, 94 candidates will be joining Miss Universe and some of them have already given pageant fans a glimpse of what they have been preparing for and PEP.ph gave a break down on some of them.
Miss Japan Yuumi Kato showed off her national costume during a press event. She will be donning a costume that will transform her into the iconic Japanese anime character Sailor Moon.
Miss Cambodia Nat Rern will wear a costume tagged as “Cambodia, Kingdom of Wonder” which features a headpiece bearing the Angkor Wat temple.
Miss Malaysia will be wearing a “Bangau Perahu” ensemble which is inspired by traditional fishing boats.
One of the pageant’s early favorites, Miss Thailand Sophida Kanchanarin is set to wear a white elephant-inspired costume.
Meanwhile, Miss Universe Vietnam organization took the selection of the national costume on a whole other level as they got the entire country involved in choosing their representative’s national costume.
So far, a red Banh Mi-inspired costume is among the favorites but it is not yet confirmed if that will be the final choice.
On the other hand, Rahima Dirkse, the representative of the Netherlands, will be wearing a white silk gown with hand-painted details showing the artworks of Dutch painter Cornelis Bouwmeester.
Lastly, everyone is excited to see what Miss Universe Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray will be wearing for the national costume competition. However, the Filipina beauty queen has not yet fully revealed what her costume will look like.
Even though there are no revelations yet, pageant fans can expect that her costume will be a massive one based on one of her Instagram Story.
As seen on the photo, the box which allegedly contains the national costume of Gray was already transported to Thailand where the pageant will take place.
The box is so big that it is almost twice the height of the two men standing in front of it.
The 67th Miss Universe pageant will be taking place in Bangkok, Thailand on December 17, 2018. Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters of South Africa will pass on the crown to her successor at the end of the event.
