Jake Zyrus’ grandmother has defended his narrative in last week’s episode of “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (MMK) after his mother Raquel Pempenco accused him of fabricating some parts of his life story.
“Para sa akin tama lang ‘yan. Sige, sweetheart, isigaw mo ang sakit na nararamdaman mong ‘yan. Bata ka pa lang dinanas mo na ang kalupitan na ‘yan. H’wag kang matakot, nandito akong magpapatotoo n’yan,” Thess Pineda, Zyrus’ grandmother, said in a Facebook post.

Jake Zyrus’ grandmother also spills the beans that the MMK episode of Charice’s life story back in 2008 was filled with lies. That episode narrated how Raquel Pempengco survived as a single mother, and how she helped her daughter’s singing career.
“Tama ‘yang ginawa mong ‘yan. Ang unang MMK, alam mo Charice, ni tuldok ng kuwento na ‘yon ay kasinungalingan. Ako ang bumuhay, nagpalaki sa inyong lahat, at ako ang mentor, trainer mo. Inalis kayo ng mommy mo sa akin, lumalaban ka sa amateur contest. Siya sa sarap, ikaw ang sa hirap,” she said.
The episode ran on August 26 with Sharlene San Pedro playing as the younger version of Charice.
