The Blas Ople Policy Center (BOPC) supports the call of the Philippine Army for the people to send letters of support to troops in Marawi City as it asked the Department of Foreign Affairs to accept such letters from OFWs for delivery to the soldiers.
BOPC head Susan Ople says OFWs are eager to send letters of support to the soldiers fighting Maute extremists in Marawi to boost their morale.
“The DFA and OWWA can pave the way for millions of OFWs to start sending postcards and letters of hope and support to our military troops in Marawi City and even for the families staying in evacuation centers,” Philippine Star quoted Ople as saying.
Last week, the Philippine Army launched the #ogopMarawi (help Marawi) campaign that gathers donated relief goods for the 177,000 residents displaced by the fighting in Marawi City.
The campaign aims to gather donation of basic school supplies for distribution to about 50,000 Marawi children affected by the conflict. It also aims to collect and give to soldiers shoe boxes containing a shirt, two pairs of socks, a personal hygiene kit, and a letter recognizing the sacrifices of the men in uniform.
