An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Saudi Arabia was repatriated to the Philippines after being hospitalized for two weeks after drinking bleach.
The OFW, who has been working in Saudi Arabia for a month, reportedly experienced severe homesickness and drank two glasses of bleach. Her employer found her and rushed to the hospital.
Labor Attaché Nasser Munder said that the OFW stayed at the Bahay Kalinga in Saudi Arabia with all of the other distressed OFWs in the said country before she was repatriated to the Philippines.
Munder added that the OFW’s case is an example of migrant workers who can’t overcome sickness and would do drastic and life-threatening decisions to get out of their situation.
He added that recruitment agencies should make sure that their applicants are emotionally fitted to work abroad.
