The House of Congress has approved on second reading the bill updating the policies and standards for the overseas FIlipino workers (OFWs).
House Bill 8810 or Handbook for OFW Act of 2018 aims to strengthen the OFW’s rights and responsibilities.
The said bill amends Republic Act 8042 or the “Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995” to fortify the policies on overseas employment and set higher safety standards for migrant workers and their families.
Also included in the handbook are education programs for OFWs, information about labor and living condition in countries they are working at, among others.
The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) is ordered to publish, update, and distribute the handbooks to the OFWs.
