The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Monday, July 9, said the suspects in the abduction of the two Filipina in Iraq will face charges.
Foreign affairs secretary Alan Peter Cayetano made the announcement upon confirming that the two abducted Filipinas have been rescued by Iraqi authorities.
“We thank God for the successful rescue of our two kababayans,” Cayetano said in a statement.
Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Julius Torres said authorities in Diyala Province in Iraq relayed the news and the eventual arrest of some members of the group that abducted the Filipinas on Friday, July 6.
Torres said the Filipinas are currently in custody of Iraqi authorities while charges for the suspects are being prepared.
