Vision Concept Aviation Training Institute (VCATI) recently welcomed its first batch of students including a Filipino national, Joshua Lao, who lives with his parents in Al Nahda in Dubai. “I have been passionate about it since high school,” told TFT. The son of an electrical engineer, Lao, the eldest of three siblings, is taking a 2-year course in aircraft maintenance engineering, including a year in on-the-job training. He was born in the Philippines; the family moved to Dubai when he was 8 years old. Almost half the batch consists of overseas students travelling to Dubai for the 2-year program. VCATI offers courses leading to licenses or certifications for Aircraft Maintenance in 4 categories – A1, A2, B1 and B2. The launch courses in Aircraft Maintenance will be followed by other qualification courses for the industry including flying and development of personnel for services. It has signed agreements with leading companies such as Air Arabia, SR Technics and Kratis to place eligible students in internships.
