Liza Avelino, a mountaineer and a domestic helper in Hong Kong conquered Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro.
Two years ago, Avelino already impressed the world by going on a 22-day hike to Island Peak, a neighbor of the 8,848 meter-high Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain.
Apart Kilimanjaro and Everest, Avelino also triumphed over Mount Yarigatake in Japan and Mount Kinabalu in Malaysia.
Avelino prepared for almost a year to achieve this dream for hers of climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro.
In her interview with GMA News, the local climbing community, her employer and friends, Avelino proved that she can pursue her dreams despite being looked down because of what she do for a living.
Aside from mountaineering, Avelino also organizes hikes and joins other OFWs in Hong Kong’s annual dragon boat festival.
