Collateral-free OWWA loan in the works for returning OFs

Overseas Workers Welfare Administrator Hans Leo. J. Cacdac said he is in talks with the Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) and Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) to explore the possibility of providing a collateral-free and smaller micro lending facility to overseas Filipinos (OFs) returning home for good.

This, as part of the government’s reintegration program for OFs where some Ph2 billion has been set aside assist them in opening and managing businesses of their own.

“We are currently sitting down with both Land Bank and DBP to explore possibilities na magkaroon ng mas maliit pa na micro lending facility na less than a hundred thousand pesos na hindi na kailangan ng collateral,” said Cacdac.

As it stands, the official said the loan facility is only available to OFs borrowing money in the range of Ph100,000 to Ph2 million. Some Ph2 billion was allotted for the purpose of which P800 million has been loaned out, according to Cacdac.

An applicant is required to undergo at least three entrepreneurship seminars for him to be trained and be able to develop a business plan, being mentored in the process
“Hindi lang kailangan merong desisyon na magkaroon ng negosyo but also mahalaga din ang pagkakaroon ng mentor na bihasa sa business sector lalo na yung may mga successful businesses,” Cacdac said.
